Eileen's Blog - Part 8: Expect the Overflow
If you keep pouring into a cup or jug it is bound to spill over; so it is with the divine receiving experience: eventually the individual overflows and benefits others. This is a natural result and a spiritual one too!
The apostle Paul describes it this way, in 2 Corinthians 9:8-9 (TPT):
"Yes, God is more than ready to overwhelm you with every form of grace, so that you will have more than enough of everything —every moment and in every way. He will make you overflow with abundance in every good thing you do.”
He is referencing the teachings of Jesus. For instance in
John 10:10 (AMP) he says:
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance to the full, till it overflows."
Overflowing to you, in you and through you is God’s ultimate plan. This depends on his grace not your good behaviour. He is determined. He means to bless you! This is the gospel, the good news!
He asks you to embrace this reality and to change the way you think: allow your mind and heart be preoccupied with knowing you are deeply loved, expect to receive good things enabling you to overflow with them to others. You may experience bad things, as the disciples did, but be clear their source is not your loving Father. He means us to receive and receive again, so we can overflow to each other: God’s plan for everyone’s life!
